Eye Conditions

At Columbus Eye Docs we constantly invest in personal professional development and the latest technologically diagnostic equipment in order to efficiently diagnose eye disease such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.  We strongly believe in early diagnosis, and even though we don’t treat directly such diseases, we will co-manage your case with an ophthalmologist.

Increased pressure within the eye can lead to a condition known as glaucoma that causes damage to the optic nerve. The increased pressure damages the optic nerve, which is responsible for transmitting images from the retina to the brain for processing. The condition normally appears in people over 45-50 years old, has hereditary history and is linked to other systemic diseases such as diabetes.  We will measure your eye’s internal pressure and scan the retina in order to identify potential signs of this condition.

During cataract surgery the lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens.  The reason for replacing the eye lens is because eventually the lens becomes cloudy affecting the vision.

Diabetic retinopathy is a condition caused by damage to the blood vessels in the retina. Symptoms include floaters, blurriness, dark areas of vision, and difficulty perceiving colors. If left untreated blindness may occur. Diabetes has been linked to this condition and often diabetes management may treat mild cases.
During macular degeneration either the retina deteriorates, or blood vessels that leak grow underneath the retina. Blurred vision in the center is a key symptom.
